Watch the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Hit an Indicated 200 MPH

No, the new 911 isn't technically a 200-mph car. But down a hill, things are a little different.

The new 992-generation Porsche 911 is, as expected, another hit from Porsche. The Carrera S model has gotten so capable, it can even hit an indicated 200 mph, given the right circumstances.

French publication L'argus got behind the wheel of a 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S for some testing recently, and managed to record an speedometer-indicated top speed of 324 km/h (201.3 mph) while going down a hill on a straightaway:

Pretty impressive for a 911 without a GT3 or a Turbo badge on the back.

Of course, this doesn't mean you can get into a new Carrera S and hit 200 MPH at your local runway. When L'argus did its actual instrumented top speed test, the car was only able to manage a top speed of 308 km/h (191.4 mph), matching the top speed quoted by the factory. Clearly, the downhill gradient had a factor in that 200-mph run.

It's also worth mentioning speedometers become less accurate as speed increases thanks to things like tire deformation. So it's likely the car's display was reading a bit higher than the car's true speed at the time. Either way, it's cool to see even entry-level 911s breaking the 200-mph barrier.
